Hello Lykkers, today we are making a classic homemade dessert that brings warmth and sweetness to our kitchen. We are preparing a rich chocolate loaf cake with a soft texture, deep cocoa flavor, and a gentle sweetness.
Unlike complicated desserts that require many steps, this recipe uses simple ingredients and clear instructions, making it a great choice for home baking.
This chocolate loaf cake is inspired by traditional pound-style cakes but has a stronger chocolate taste. The inside stays tender, while the outside develops a light baked layer. We can enjoy it as a simple dessert, share it with family and friends, or add extra toppings to create different flavors.
This recipe makes one loaf cake using a 9-inch × 5-inch pan or an 8 1/2-inch × 4 1/2-inch pan. The preparation time is about 10 minutes, and the baking time is around 60 to 70 minutes.

Ingredients We Prepare

Before baking, we prepare all ingredients carefully. Room-temperature ingredients help create a smoother batter and a better final texture.
Ingredients:
- 113 grams unsalted butter, softened at room temperature
- 283 grams granulated sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 teaspoons instant coffee powder, optional, to deepen the chocolate flavor
- 57 grams unsweetened cocoa powder
- 14 grams cake enhancer, optional, for a softer texture
- 3 large eggs, at room temperature
- 150 grams all-purpose flour
- 170 grams milk, at room temperature
We also prepare a loaf pan, mixing bowl, electric mixer or hand mixer, spatula, and a toothpick for checking the cake.

Step One: Prepare The Baking Tools

1. First, we preheat our oven to 350°F (175°C). Preparing the oven early allows the cake to bake evenly from the beginning.
2. Next, we lightly grease the loaf pan with butter or cooking oil. This helps us remove the cake more easily after baking. If we prefer, we can also place baking paper inside the pan for extra convenience.
3. Once the pan is ready, we set it aside and begin preparing the chocolate batter.

Step Two: Make The Chocolate Mixture

1. In a medium bowl, we add the softened butter, sugar, salt, vanilla extract, baking powder, cocoa powder, instant coffee powder, and cake enhancer.
2. We mix these ingredients until they become a thick, slightly grainy mixture. At this point, the batter may not look completely smooth, but that is normal. The eggs will help create a more balanced and creamy texture.
3. The optional coffee powder does not make the cake taste like coffee. Instead, it helps highlight the natural chocolate flavor and gives the dessert a deeper taste.

Step Three: Add Eggs And Build The Batter

1. We add the three eggs one at a time. After each egg goes into the bowl, we mix well before adding the next one.
2. During this process, we scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl to make sure all ingredients combine evenly. A smooth mixture at this stage helps create a soft cake after baking.
3. Next, we add half of the flour and mix slowly. Then we pour in all the milk and continue mixing. Finally, we add the remaining flour and stir gently until the batter becomes smooth.

Step Four: Bake The Chocolate Loaf Cake

1. We pour the finished batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Then we place the pan into the preheated oven.
2. We bake the cake for 60 to 70 minutes. To check if it is ready, we insert a toothpick into the center. If it comes out clean or with a few small crumbs, the cake is finished.
3. After removing the cake from the oven, we let it rest in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then we carefully transfer it to a cooling rack and allow it to cool completely.

Serving And Storage Tips

Once the chocolate loaf cake has cooled, we can slice it into even pieces and enjoy its soft texture and rich cocoa aroma.
For extra variety, we can add a small amount of peanut butter, fresh fruit, or a simple topping before serving. These additions can create different flavors while keeping the chocolate taste as the main highlight.
To store the cake, we wrap it well and keep it at room temperature. Proper storage helps maintain its softness and fresh flavor for longer.
